After your beach day, you just might get a bit hungry. We were here thinking about the some really delicious deli food for lunch. We are right in the middle of Sanibel and can walk or bike in either direction. Which way up Periwinkle? DELI: We recommend Jerry's Foods (1700 Periwinkle Way), perfect for desserts, wines, beer, and takeout (239-472-9300).

Do not miss the browsing and shopping adventure provided at She Sells Sea Shells (1157 Periwinkle Way). This is not just for women, as locals, tourists and Florida residents will love it. Coral, hats, handbags, and you get the picture. Top Rated for gifts for those up north!

Sanibel is a Florida vacation destination were dreams come true. It is no stretch to say that there is something special about the island, beach, and water. The Sundial is one of the most affordable hotels in the area. Do not forget to ask about seasonal specials, Florida resident discounts, and senior discounts.

Be sure to stop at the Sanibel-Captiva Visitor Center, to be informed of the current event list and the various special activities. Nearly each and every week, something is going on. The visitor center (1159 Causeway Road) is open 7 days a week, and located at the second drive on the right, when you cross the Sanibel Causeway.

We love Lee County and the boating, kayaking, bicycling, golf, and charter fishing options in the area. Oh, do not forget about tennis, biking, and shuffleboard. However, in Sanibel our number one fun thing is shelling. We found a bunch of unique looking treasures as we strolled along the gulf shores.

A Sanibel Beach Vacation would not be complete without getting out on the water! Take your pick of the type of water tour for you. Maybe a sunset cruise, a dolphin-spotting cruise, or you can rent your own boat. Consider also taking an eco friendly kayak trip and explore the island at sea level. We took a boat cruise at Captiva Cruises (11401 Andy Rosse Lane, Captiva). It was a splendid boat ride and the highlight of the day.

Swimming and playing around by the Pool is a great way to spend the day. You will also burn tons of calories, so a little poolside dinner planning is a good idea. On this day, we decided that we will head straight over to Doc Fords Rum Bar and Grill (239-472-8311), a local favorite. At this Bar and Grill (975 Rabbit Road) you get fantastic dishes all in an atmosphere inspired by the best selling author, Randy Wayne White.

By the Sundial's main pool area, be rejuvenated at the hot tub/spa. If you need a bit more treatment, hit the Sanibel Day Spa (239-395-2220) at 2075 Periwinkle Way. Hey, you are on vacation so do go all out with some personal spa services.

Your children will love the pools at the Sundial Resort. They are kept warm and inviting. The main pool area has more action, and the other pools are better for reading a book or taking an afternoon nap. Our kids were in the pool at least two or three times each vacation day.

Do tour the area and checkout a few of the public beaches. Lee County has received many beach awards, since they are home to some of the top rated beach destinations. Here area a few beach suggestions for you to checkout: Bowditch Point Park, Turner Beach, and Blind Pass Beach.

The views around the island can be inspiring to the eyes. Bicycle riding is the way to check it all out, at a fun and leisurely pace. You can rent bikes at Billy's Bikes (1470 Periwinkle), and leave the auto in the parking lot. You will not be alone, as bikes and bike paths are found just about everywhere on the island.
