This is a good one and one of the attractions in Key West that everyone must do once. It is a lot better than Hemingway, since it covers a broader history base of the island. A lot of it had to do with the ships as they would try to pass around the Florida Keys towards Cuba and the Caribbean. However, the Key West reef area is about 7 miles offshore and is very difficult for sailboats to navigate through when the weather turns poor. People watched for shipwrecks all the time, especially just after big storms. The first one there got 50% of the salvage money, making that person very wealthy.
